Recently, so-called ‘green energy’ has become increasingly popular. Taking the ever-increasing energy prices and people’s growing awareness of ecology into consideration, this fact is no surprise. However, not everyone knows how many areas of life can be affected by increasing the share of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in the energy market.
Countries all over the world are trying to increase the share of RES in energy production due to the numerous advantages of green energy. Still, many countries rely on non-renewable energy sources, regularly abandoning them. Old power plants, such as coal-fired plants, are being replaced with modern ones.
There are many ways of producing renewable energy. We can distinguish primarily between:
- solar power plants, which convert solar radiation into heat or electricity,
- hydroelectric power stations that convert water energy into electricity,
- wind power plants – windmills produce mechanical energy by means of the wind,
which is then converted into electricity.
- geothermal power plants that use the thermal energy of rocks, water and the ground beneath the Earth’s surface,
- biomass, which is converted into other forms of energy or the products of its decomposition.
What are the benefits of the RES? First and foremost, there is no risk of depletion of natural resources. Moreover, with renewables you become energy independent. Another major advantage of the RES is that they are cheap sources of energy.
Green energy is also significant for a positive environment. It contributes to reducing air pollutant emissions related to the processing of fossil fuels. In addition, it reduces the greenhouse effect as well as the amount of waste and regulates water relations.
Renewable energy sources are therefore a very important aspect of environmental care and people. It is worth maximizing their share in the world’s energy production and supplies.
